Get ahead for the new annual leave year

Unbelievably, April is just around the corner – and, for many of us, this means planning a new year of annual leave for our teams, which is an ideal time to look at ways to streamline the process.

Do you find yourself sinking under a pile of holiday requests every week? Is it difficult to keep track of who wants to book summer holidays and time off over Christmas – and did they take the same time off last year? Annual leave is a contentious topic for many employees. After all, time off work is precious and team members need reassurance that they’re being treated fairly and are being awarded the leave they’re entitled to.

So, if you’ve ever sat pondering how you should calculate annual leave, believe me, you’re not alone. When you try to factor in part-time employees, term-time-only contracts and maternity leave, it’s enough to give any practice manager a migraine!

And with legislation stating that annual leave should not discriminate against part-time workers, it’s important to be able to demonstrate how you’ve calculated leave and that no one loses out as a result of their working pattern.

Help is at hand! With Holiday Manager, you’ll be glad to know that all doubts and questions are removed. Simply enter the working pattern of your staff member, and their entitlement, and the rest is done for you! Holiday Manager will even automatically override annual leave once you start maternity leave, for example.

In our blog “Balancing your bank holidays”, we discuss the reasons why we calculate annual leave in the way we do. But if you’re one of the practices that doesn’t calculate leave in the same way, don’t worry – it’s quick and easy to add an adjustment to annual leave.

Did you know, you can also upload and easily manage any forms that need to be attached to leave – for example, sickness records or return-to-work documents?

Available for free in the Practice Index HUB, Holiday Manager is easy to use for managers and staff alike, and can save hours of administration time.

Head over to the HUB where you’ll find Holiday Manager ready and waiting for you. If you don’t yet have a HUB account, you can sign up for one here (takes 60 seconds) and we’ll get you started.
