NHS pension tier rates are changing from 1st April 2015

NHS pensionFrom 1st April 2015 the new employer contribution rates will be 14.3% for England and Wales, 16.3% for Northern Ireland and 14.9% for Scotland. Scotland will also have an employee contribution rate increase of 0.2%.

As well as changing tier rates, there will be an introduction of a 2015 scheme for new members with existing members of the 1995/2008 scheme being protected.

The rates for employees are the same as the current 2014/2015 scheme year contribution rates, with the exception of a small adjustment to the tier 4/5 boundary.

Rates and tier boundaries will be fixed for four years, running until 31st March 2019.

Part time workers, deemed pension contributions, will still be based on WTE number of hours. The tier rate for those who received reduced earnings throughout the year, perhaps due to sickness or maternity pay will continue to be based on unreduced earnings.

New starter contribution rates will be based on assumed earnings for the year, including WTE hours worked for part time staff.
