We know it’s difficult to quantify the amount of time or money you might be able to save on your PPA claim, so we’ve put together a case study to illustrate this for you.

So, let’s introduce Practice A. This practice is based in a suburban area and is a GMS practice with just over 11,000 patients.

Our case study brief was straightforward: analyse one month’s data and check what the changes could have been if the practice had used PPA Manager. Their average monthly claim runs to around 3.5k, and attracts a discount of 5.93% as a prescribing-only practice.

We looked at

  • Items that they currently claim
  • What they pay for them
  • What they aren’t presently claiming
  • Admin/PM time saved

By using a monthly claim that had already been paid and reconciling it to ePACT2 data, we were able to identify:

  • £94.40 underpayment on the basic cost of drugs (i.e. items claimed but not reimbursed)
  • £97.86 difference between the purchase price and reimbursement including clawback
  • £50.46 in items that were personally administered but not claimed for
  • £82.90 in missed dispensing fees attracted by the items not claimed

TOTAL:  £325.62

We estimate it would take about an hour of PM time (£22.96) to check and update the basic cost of drugs and to reconcile and check the payment. The added complicating factor is that a PM would need to review and update each month, along with the discount clawback and dispensing fees. Our calculator should reduce that to around 5 minutes because it’s all done for you. Reconciling is easy as you can check line by line against your ePACT2 data (£1.91).

Time-saving = £21.05.

Total monthly figure= £325.62 + £21.05 = £346.67

Based on this figure, annually this would work out to around £4,160.00.

Why not sign up for PPA Manager? The numbers speak for themselves and it also comes with a free bespoke ‘PPA Claim Healthcheck‘. Once you’ve added some claims, just let us know and we’ll cast an expert eye over them and send you a list of the drugs, medicines and devices you could be claiming but probably aren’t. We’ll also send you an easy to follow plan, to make sure you are not losing money on your claims!
