    Course description:
    The key principles of performance appraisal and their significance to both the supervisor and the employee (the appraisee).

    Objectives
    To gain an understanding of:
    • How the appraisee maximises return on investment via the performance appraisal process
    • How the performance appraisal cycle works and its added value to the medical practice
    • The supervisor’s role
    • The appraisee’s role
    • How to prepare for the appraisal discussion when you have been in the role for many years
    • The performance journal and how to use it
    • How to embrace the appraisal process to ensure alignment to the practice’s vision
    Course outline for the day
    The training facilitator will lead discussion relating to the purpose of appraisals in the medical practice and their place in a business context; how they add value for the practice and its employees; preparation for the performance appraisal; their link to learning and development, as well as how they underpin the recruitment and selection process. The training day will consist of discussion, validation of understanding, documentation review and practice in the form of role play.

    Admin and front-office staff have expressed that they have gained insight and an introduction to new techniques by attending this course, but it is targeted at anyone who is preparing for their performance appraisal. It will benefit groups of staff at similar levels to enable transparency in dialogue.
