All GP practices will be required to connect the new NHS app, offering digital services through it, it has been reported.
NHS England is set to announce the results of a pilot study of the NHS app, claiming it has proved successful, the Health Service Journal reported.
The organisation says it expects all practices to be linked to the app by July. It will then be linked to the national e-referral system within 12 months.
According to the report, the organisation is working to make the app compatible with other apps, already used by many practices.
The evaluation will show the app is popular for checking GP records and ordering repeat prescriptions – but there have been problems with booking appointments. Some 3,193 registered to use the app, some 337 appointments were booked and 106 of these later cancelled.
NHS England interim chief digital officer Tara Donnelly said: “We’d like to make it a universal offer for people, regardless of what part of the country you live in, you’d have the option of using the NHS app.”
She said many practices had been keen to sign up but added: “It is our expectation that it will be a universal offer across the country, and if there is a practice that finds it particularly tricky, we will give them extra support to help them do that.”
